I don't see excessive amounts of grain in this pic, despite the really high ISO! I'm quite impressed =D. How did you achieve that? Post-processing, or is it just the sensor on the 40D?

Well it's all of the above. The 40D has a great sensor and also many different noise reduction fuctions including a very nice high ISO noise reduction that doesn't degrade focus (Although this isn't the best focus wise due to how dark it was), but also I used a 580EX II speedlite, which helps improve the light a great deal and that gives the camera a hand in reducing noise too. Also a very great way to reduce noise in a portrait (I did this for this shot) is to copy the layer, use 'lens blur' and then erase parts that require more detail for example the eyes and parts of the face. For this shot I used a blur radius of around 15px (At 600x900px@72dpi), reduced the opacity of the whole layer to around 60%, then erased the face at 40%, then erased the eyes at 100%. It also helps create a nice looking soft focus.

Sorry about the huge comment

No apology needed! I use an XTi, so I'll have to see what noise-reduction options are included in it...I also use the GIMP instead of PS, but I'm pretty sure I can replicate all of what you just said. Thanks for the advice!

No worries! Glad I could help. Good luck in the future!
